Tuskegee is a private, historically black university founded in 1881. Tuskegee started with only 30 students in a small room with Dr. Booker T. Washington as its very first teacher. Since that time, Tuskegee University has grown to a student body of over 3,100. Through its five academic colleges and two academic schools, Tuskegee offers more than 50 degrees in many fields of study. Engineering is the top major at the university. Tuskegee is the number one producer of African-American aerospace engineers in the United States. For the total college experience, Tuskegee has several student organizations that host numerous activities to keep students engaged socially, academically and politically. For over 130 years, Tuskegee University has successfully educated thousands of African-American students. It is the school’s mission to cultivate and challenge each student to live up to his or her full potential.
