Cornell University was founded in 1865, and by the 1890s there were several African-American students. Cornell awards undergraduate and graduate degrees through its 14 academic schools and colleges. Popular majors at the university include Engineering, Agriculture, Business and Social Sciences. Cornell hosts various activities through its more than 750 student groups and organizations. Groups aimed toward African-American students include African Dance Repertoire, Black Women’s Support Network, Black Students United and historically black sororities and fraternities. Alpha Phi Alpha, the first national fraternity for African Americans, was founded in 1906 by Cornell students.
