University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is one of the five universities in the UT system. Established in 1886 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, UTC is organized into five academic colleges and schools. Through its academic departments, UTC grants undergraduate and graduate degrees in numerous fields of study. Popular majors include Business Administration, Education, Psychology and Kinesiology, and the university promotes experiential hands-on learning for its students. African-American students desegregated the campus 50 years ago, and these alumni were recently honored in a series of special events on campus. Current African-American students promote racial pride and diversity through the Black Student Alliance, which also promotes scholarship, leadership and civic duty. UT Chattanooga is dedicated to meeting the needs of each student. It is UTC’s mission to provide its students excellence in teaching, research and service.
