Virginia State University was established in 1882. VSU is organized into five academic schools, which grant more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degrees in various fields of study. The university offers traditional majors like Business Administration, Physical Education, Criminal Justice and Mass Communications, but also offers a Bachelor’s of individualized studies designed for working adults attending school on a part-time basis. From Homecoming events to Jazz on the Hill, students are sure to find some social activity to appeal to their personal interests, especially with eight of the historically black fraternities and sororities on campus. There are plenty of clubs to support their academic and professional interests as well, such as the National Association of Black Accountants and the Association of Political Scientists. Virginia State University is committed to the success of its students. It is VSU’s belief that the world can be improved through a rigorous academic curriculum and diverse student organizations and activities.
