Look, we get it. Being Black is kind of the s***.

The culture, the skin, the struggle, the victories — we won’t even mention how we upped the entire mac and cheese game. But everyone can’t get in on this, man (we’re looking at you Rachel Dolezal)! You literally have to be BORN into this legacy.

So when Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson’s daughter told “Rolling Stone” that she identifies as a Black woman, we had a whole host of feelings, all of which were punctuated by a chorus of side-eyes.

Honestly, we have always been skeptical of Michael’s claim to have had any biological children — especially Paris or her siblings Blanket and Prince. And at the time, Michael’s relationship with Blackness was a little shaky (was it surgery or a disease that turned him so pale and his features so Caucasian?), so when he popped up with a white wife (Debbie Rowe) and three seemingly white kids, we just chalked it up to Mike being Mike.

But that doesn’t mean Paris is lying.

“Most people that don’t know me call me white,” she said. “I’ve got light skin and, especially since I’ve had my hair blond, I look like I was born in Finland or something.”

When we think about it, there are a lot of celebrities we didn’t know were Black at first and maybe Paris is just one more. But just in case our first hunch is right, we reserve the right to keep a side-eye in our back pocket.

Here’s a gallery of famous folks we later found out were actually Black.
