Fresh into 2017 and the bad news keeps coming.
Bishop Eddie L. Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church passed away early this Sunday morning after reportedly battling an aggressive form of cancer.
We all expressed concern in December when disturbing pictures popped up of Bishop Long in the gym looking extremely sick. According to his own announcement, his new look was the result of no longer eating from a “slave menu.”
We all knew something else HAD to be going on. And sure enough, the “Christian Post” said Bishop Long had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, a claim Long neither confirmed or denied but acknowledged in a statement that said he was recovering from a “health challenge.”
Bishop Long was no stranger to controversy, but he will be missed for his pivotal role in the Gospel community.
Several celebs are speaking out in remembrance of his legacy:
My heart is heavy, but God is in control. See you in the rapture Bishop Eddie Long. It was my honor to serve New Birth for 12 years.

There are MANY reasons to be critical of Eddie Long. But I hope we don’t use his death as an occasion to invoke dangerous theology.
