1. Alameda County Deputy District Attorney
1989: Harris Graduated from the University of California (UC), Hastings College of the Law with a Juris Doctor. While at UC Hastings, she served as president of the Black Law Students Association.
1990: Harris was admitted to the California Bar, and later became a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, where she was noted as being “an able prosecutor on the way up.”

2008: The then-San Francisco District Attorney celebrated the ruling by the California Supreme Court with her sister ACLU Executive Director for Northern California Maya Harris. The court struck down marriage laws that discriminate against gay and lesbian couples.
