Duranice Pace, a gospel singer and the oldest of the sibling gospel group The Anointed Pace Sisters, passed away from health complications Thursday (Jan. 14). She was 62.
On Jan. 5, the Pace family made an announcement on Instagram asking to “Please keep the prayers, support, and love coming as Duranice still fights and gets stronger in the hospital.”
“She is eternally grateful for all of you and she can’t wait to announce a special concert-event that she has been planning with a team of Broadway professionals,” the post continued.
The Atlanta native released several albums between 1989 and 2009 alongside her eight siblings — Phyllis Pace, June Pace-Martin, Melonda Pace, Dejuaii Pace, Leslie Pace, Latrice Pace, Lydia Pace, and LaShun Pace who pursued a solo gospel career.
“I got started when I was five years old,” she shared during an interview with Voyage ATL. “I was inspired by my father, who was a professional quartette singer for Gospel Starlight’s and my mom, who sang during praise and worship what was then known as testimony service at church. My father would have rehearsal every Wednesday in our living room with his singing group, and my siblings and I would peep in on their rehearsals.”
The Anointed Pace Sisters released It’s Morning Time, their debut studio album, in 1992. Up until 2009, they released six more projects with four of the albums charted on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart.
Tributes began to pour in, including one from Steve Harvey, as soon as the news was released.
