Funny man, Cedric the Entertainer is showing off his serious acting chops in his latest film, Son of the SouthThe civil rights-era film, produced by Spike Lee, will be released during Black History Month.

The film appropriately comes at a time when racial tensions and Black Lives Matters movements have been amplified for the world to see. Lucas Till plays the grandson of a Klansman who comes of age in the deep south and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement and connects with Reverend Ralph Abernathy, played by Cedric the Entertainer. The film, based on Bob Zellner’s autobiography, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement, also stars, actress on the rise, Sharonne Lanier.

Son of the South won’t be the first project that Cedric the Entertainer and Spike Lee have worked on. Back in August 2020, Spike Lee celebrated the 20th anniversary of his production, The Original Kings of Comedy, which featured stand-up comedy acts by Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hugely, and the late Bernie Mac.

 

With over 20 years in Hollywood, Cedric the Entertainer has starred in a number of comedic movies and shows, including The Steve Harvey Show with longtime friend Steve Harvey. This latest role will show a different side of the comedian’s acting skills.
