The powerhouse that is Regina King has not failed us once and with the release of the trailer for her directorial debut in One Night in Miami, it appears that she’ll maintain her track record.

TV One reported that the Oscar winner would be making her directorial debut in July 2019 but the time has finally come.

The film, which is based on true events and the stage play by Kemp Powers, follows a young Cassius Clay (Eli Goree) — before he went by Muhammad Ali — after he shocks the world by knocking out the undefeated Sonny Liston and becoming boxing’s new heavyweight world champion. Although hundreds of people flood Miami Beach’s hotspots to celebrate, Clay has no other option than to spend the night at the Hampton House Motel in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood as a result of the Jim Crow-era segregation laws.

With the help from three of his friends, activist Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir),  football star Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), and singer-songwriter Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), they celebrate his monumental win and define a new world.
