“You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.’ But it’s a good club to be a part of,” said the NAACP Image Awards winner.

To cut straight to the chase — yes, the 33-year-old is single but shared which personality traits are most important to him for a successful relationship; “a sense of humor, true understanding, because [an actor’s] life is not conducive to a relationship— it’s really not.” He adds, “Somebody that’s nurturing. I’ve got a list. That’s probably why my a** is still single, but yeah, it’s a list.”

When asked if he sees himself as a family man, he insisted that he does.

“Having people who are married around me, a running theme is ‘You know when you know.’ And it’s one of the most frustrating things to hear as somebody who’s single. I kind of thought I knew four or five times, and that didn’t really work out too well for me.”

When put into consideration that Jordan’s company, Outlier Society Productions, was the first to adopt an inclusion rider mandating that filmmakers hire a diverse cast and crew, it’s conceivable to see why The Black Panther actor has been vocal in the Black Lives Matter movement and the 2020 elections.

“I think there’s a time and a place for everything,” he said. “I’ve been picking my moments to make the most impact. We can all take action—big or small—to help create the change we want to see.”

Jordan redirects the praise he receives to his parents, Donna and Michael A., and siblings Khalid and Jamila noting that they’ve been his foundation and grounding force throughout his career.

“My mom and dad sacrificed so much to provide for my sister, brother and me. I’m just grateful. Honestly it’s like they all have had such an impact on me and who I am and how I approach each day. Without that, a lot of things about me just wouldn’t be the same. So it all comes back to that foundation. I’m really thankful for that.”

“Just growing, whatever the next evolution of me is,” he says. “Hopefully a family by then, I’m going to throw that in the universe. I want to make an impact all over the world and not just through the roles that I play.”

He even shared that the women in his family are the most excited for his new title of Sexiest Man Alive adding that “When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they’re definitely going to have a special place for.”
