Barack Obama took a page from our forever first lady and is releasing his memoir after the 2020 election.

The 44th U.S. president shared to Instagram that his 768-page memoir will provide “an honest accounting of my presidency, the forces we grapple with as a nation, and how we can heal our divisions and make democracy work for everybody.”

“A Promise Land” will speak on his early political career, his 2008 campaign, and his beginning years in the White House. Since the book is the first of two volumes, it will conclude in 2011 with the death of Osama bin Laden.

According to the NY Times, the 59-year-old started writing shortly after leaving office in 2016. The former president hopes to “give readers a sense of the personal journey that Michelle and I went through during those years, with all the incredible highs and lows,” he wrote. “I hope more than anything that the book inspires young people across the country – and around the globe – to take up the baton, lift up their voices, and play their part in remaking the world for the better.”

In 2017, both Barack and Michelle Obama sold their memoirs to Crown, an imprint of Penguin Random House, for $65 million; the largest presidential book deal in history. To prepare for the high demand, the publishing company has ordered 3 million copies for the U.S. edition. To fulfill a request of this size, Crown will print approximately 1 million of those books in Germany and three ships will bring those copies to the United States.

It is clear that they made the right investment as Mrs. Obama‘s memoir “Becoming”, sold 1.4 million copies in the first week it was released in the fall of 2018. Since its release, her memoir was number one on Amazon’s bestseller list for more than two months (beating out Fifty Shades of Grey’s previous record) and has sold more than 8.1 million units in the U.S. and Canada.
