This is the second film slated to portray the career of the “His Eyes are on The Sparrow” singer. “Orange is The New Black” actress Danielle Brooks has been said to also be taking on the role in a seperate project. However, this newly announced production has secured the rights to the late singer’s entire catalog of music!

Queen Latifah, who produced the crowd favorite Clark Sisters biopic which aired on Lifetime earlier this year, released a statement sharing that the same team will be working on this new movie.

“This is such an incredibly important story to tell and we’re thrilled to work with Jamie on the project…looking forward to reteaming with our Clark Sisters producing partner, Holly Carter, to share Mahalia’s inspiring journey to becoming the Queen of Gospel music.”

Mahalia Jackson, known for her powerful and soulful voice, will always top the list of the world’s greatest gospel singers.
