Stevie Wonder is taking a much-needed break from touring this summer.

The 69-year-old announced that he will be getting a kidney transplant this September. The newlywed made the announcement this past weekend at a music festival in Hyde Park.

During the middle of the iconic song “Superstition”, the singer announced that he’ll be taking a break after three more shows.

“So what’s gonna happen is this, I’m going to have surgery, I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year. I’m all good, I’m all good, I’m all good. I have a donor, it’s all good,” Wonder said. “I want you to know I came here to give you my love and to thank you for your love. You ain’t gotta hear no rumors about nothing, I told you what’s up. I’m good. All right?”

The 25 time Grammy award winner didn’t offer too many details, but according to The Detroit Free Press, Wonder has been going through “a serious but manageable health issue”. This news is somewhat comparable to George Clinton’s recent retirement from touring.

The legendary Motown member has played an active role in the entertainment industry and has continuously toured the world for years. He most recently performed at Nipsey Hussle’s April memorial service in Los Angeles. We’re going to miss his soulful voice but we’re confident he’ll be back on stage and serenading us in no time.
