Rumors have swirled for years about a possible Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot since this iconic photo of most of the cast was photographed together in 2016.

In 2017 Will Smith even said he’d possibly be open to the idea under one condition, he’d have to play the role of the late James Avery — because, well, he’s 50. Earlier that year DJ Jazzy Jeff confirmed there had indeed been “talks” about reviving the iconic series. Well, fans are getting their wish, but not in a way you probably think. Meet Destiny, the star of a new children’s book, Fresh Princess.

Reportedly, Fresh Princess will center on “Destiny, a carefree Black girl with the stellar sense of fashion to match. Destiny’s world is turned upside down when she moves into a new neighborhood. Like Will Smith’s iconic character, Destiny is a fish out of water who will stop at nothing to bring color to a situation and make it fit to her liking.”

In a statement, Smith said, “I couldn’t be more excited that the character I played for so long could inspire such a fun and empowering book for kids everywhere,” Will Smith said in a statement. “I know all of my children would have loved Fresh Princess growing up, and being a father who raised a strong daughter I know how important it is to see that type of strength depicted in stories. It’s what Jada and I have always championed and shown our kids throughout their lives. I’m down to follow Destiny through her growth and adventures just as I had experienced the journey of the young ‘Will Smith’ as he danced, laughed, made mistakes, and created memorable moments on his road to becoming the Fresh Prince.”

What a way to bring Black History Month to a close, huh? Pre-orders for Fresh Princess begin April 2.
