You might recall the name Alice Marie Johnson as the woman who was serving a life sentence for non-violent drug trafficking until Kim Kardashian West became her advocate, and got her out of prison. The reality TV star pushed for Johnson’s release at the hands of President Donald Trump, and now, she’s writing a book about it all.
“I feel humbled that the telling of my story gives hope and my years of pain were not in vain,” said the new author in a statement.
“After Life: My Journey From Incarceration to Freedom” will be a published by HarperCollins Publishers, and according to the book house, the narrative is an “honest, faith-driven memoir” and a “deep look into the systemic issue of mass incarceration.”
And because of what Kim was able to do for the 63-year-old, she’s given her the honor of writing the foreword to her memoir. “My life has forever changed because of Alice Marie Johnson,” said the entrepreneur in a statement. “Her story is a gift that will now reach so many millions more through her book and film. I hope Alice’s case is just the beginning of a movement to help those left behind. I am invested in continuing to support Alice and this cause.” This isn’t the mother of three’s first time advocating for social justice issues. Remember when she spoke up about Cyntoia Brown?
Shortly after being released, the mother of five and the 38-year-old met for the first time on The Today Show, and their bond has been a beautiful one ever since.
Not only is a story coming out of this, but also a movie deal. According to Variety, a movie and TV pact with Endeavor Content and One Community are in the works to tell Alice’s story of redemption. Also, financial terms for the book, film, and television agreement have not been disclosed, reports WREG.
This is only the beginning for the Memphis resident. She was recently a special guest at the State of the Union on Tuesday, and who knows what other advocacy work lies in her future.
