The 2019 Oscars host has been announced, and it’s none other than, Kevin Hart! The comedian has finally gotten his dream after going on a “campaign” in 2015 for the coveted hosting gig.
Last year, he told Variety: “It would be something I would definitely do just to say I did it in my career. It would be great to say I had that moment.” And now the moment is here (well almost)! The “Night School” star took to Instagram to express how “blown away” he is for this opportunity.
From the time Hart publicly said he wanted the gig, the Academy chose fellow comedian and actor Chris Rock in 2016 and the talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has held the emcee spot back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018. But Kevin definitely spoke it into existence and is checking this off his bucket list of achievements to becoming one of the greatest comedians (You can’t deny his work ethic)!
On Feb. 24, he will become the fourth African American to emcee the show: Richard Pryor (1977, 1983), Whoopi Goldberg (1993, 1995, 1998, 2001), and Chris Rock (2005, 2016).
Before the Oscars airs, the actor will star in his first serious role in “The Upside,” where he plays a caregiver to a wealthy man with quadriplegia. The movie comes out on January 11.
