Will Smith is keeping it all the way real. On Monday, he posted a sweet Instagram tribute to his oldest son, Trey Smith. The Fresh Prince revealed that his relationship with his son hasn’t always been the best, especially after his divorce from his first wife, Trey’s mother, Sheree Zampino.

The actor is currently in Abu Dhabi at the F1 Grand Prix shooting for his YouTube series. In the video, he explains that it’s important for him to spend quality “daddy time” with each of his children and that this trip is all about Trey. Now, that’s real fatherhood.

Will goes on to share an intimate moment he had with his son: “So we’ve been doing this, hanging at the F1, and he said, ‘You know what dad? I just realized you’re not just my dad.’ He paused and said, ‘I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.'”

How beautiful!

After years of struggle, and feelings of betrayal and abandonment, the Fresh Prince and his 26-year-old son now have a solid relationship that has been recovered and restored through a lot of love. While recording the video, you can see the emotion on Will’s face, one of mixed emotions, but gratefulness for how far they’ve come. He married Zampino in 1992, and they later divorced in 1995.

Trey even reposted the video, and added, “awwwww shucks ♥️ you too big guy.” His love for his dad (and family, in general) can be seen all over his Instagram page.

Will, Trey’s “bonus mom,” Jada Pinkett Smith, and Sheree have been able to create a successful friendship, and co-parenting relationship for the past 23+ years, despite changing family dynamics. Sheree and Jada actually got real candid about their relationship on an episode of the “Girls Trip” actress’ Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk.

The talk show host has also been super open about her husband’s relationship with his ex-wife, and their son, saying that they even vacation together without her.

“She and Will have their own relationship. She’s gone on vacations with Will without me, with Trey. I feel as though Trey needs to feel that dynamic between his two parents. It’s important to feel where they do meet. So he can feel that parental connection.”

Now, that is a whole other level of grown. Go ahead, Jada!
