Last night’s American Music Awards was a bit of a sleeper but that all changed when Cece Winans, Gladys Knight, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary and Ledisi took the stage to perform a medley of hits celebrating the late Aretha Franklin‘s gospel roots. Before the show, Erica and Tina Campbell told Billboard how much of an honor it was to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul.

Gladys was the first to take the stage with a stirring performance of Amazing Grace. Watch their performances below.

Aretha died in August of pancreatic cancer at 76. The six-hour funeral proved to be just as fabulous and iconic as she was to many. Relive some of our favorite performances from The Clark Sisters, Jennifer Hudson and more here.
