Byron Allen, the comedian turned entrepreneur, made headlines everywhere when he was announced as the new owner of The Weather Channel three months ago. Allen’s company, Entertainment Studios, reached a $300 million deal to acquire the infamous channel l from Blackstone Group, Bain Capital and Comcast-NBCUniversal.

This morning, while at the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit, Allen opened up in detail about his decision to add The Weather Channel to his growing empire.

He continued to drop gems during the fireside chat, including this one.

Entertainment Studios was founded 25 years ago and has since built it into the empire it is today, that not only operates eight cable TV channels (including Pets.TV, Comedy.TV, Recipe.TV, Cars.TV, ES.TV, MyDestination.TV and JusticeCentral.TV), but also has released independent films.

Allen joins the list of black entrepreneurs making major moves this year including JAY-Z and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who are currently working on an app together to highlight black businesses! Also on that list is FAMU graduate, Melissa Butler whose lipstick line, The Lip Bar, became the first black-owned vegan brand sold at Target.
