Wyclef Jean Signs Copies Of “Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story”

Rohan Marley is not the only Lauryn Hill ex snatching her wig. Wyclef Jean has a new book out and he reportedly calls his former Fugees band mate a liar. Worse, he invokes a Maury subplot to slam her.

Although he was married when they carried on a torrid affair, Fugees founder Wyclef Jean says it was bandmate Lauryn Hill’s lies about the paternity of her child that doomed the ’90s hip-hop trio.

Jean claims Hill tricked him into believing her firstborn son was his, when, in fact, the father was Bob Marley’s son Rohan.

“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that,” Jean writes in “Purpose,” at which The Post got a first look yesterday.

The Haitian-born Jean says the betrayal by Hill led to the band’s 1997 breakup.

“She could not longer be my muse,” he wrote. “Our love spell was broken.”

In response to criticism to him speaking out, Wyclef Jean told MTV News:

"It’s important because at the end of the day, I’m not coming at L," he said, dismissing any notion that he’s attacking her. "This is a period of my life, and that’s how I felt. If anything, I just brought closure to a chapter — because at the end of the day, I didn’t do Miseducation, so there was no closure in my chapter, but I kept writing and writing. It was important just to be honest. I’m not known to sugarcoat, so it’s either yes or no. And for [someone] picking up something and reading it, I don’t think that I should’ve left it as a myth. Because even if I said it or she said, history is gonna say what it is."
