The latest black female celebrity to come forward with her #MeToo story is the early 2000’s princess of R&B, Ashanti. The movement, originally started by Tarana Burke has encouraged women who have been sexually assaulted to speak up about their experiences, although a victim who was allegedly assaulted by R. Kelly recently expressed disappointment in the lack of support she’d received.

The “Only U” singer opened up on SiriusXM‘s “Conversations with Maria Menounos” radio show about being sexually harassed by someone she worked with in the past. The artist claims that after she refused an offer to take a shower with the unnamed producer he demanded extra money to work on her album.

“I’ve come across a situation where there was a certain producer that, you know, he had his little crush or whatever, but it wasn’t anything new...” said the Grammy-winning artist. “And once I said ‘no,’ all of a sudden the track became $45K.”

The Billboard Music Award-winner went into more detail about the incident. “It’s funny because he said something like, ‘Well just take a shower with me and let me do this.'”

The NAACP Image Award winner had her family step in to help her confront the producer for his actions, and in turn, he ended up working with the 37-year-old for free.

The way that apology came in, I actually got three records for free!” said the “Rock Wit U” singer. “And I got two of them mixed and mastered for free.”

Unfortunately, the R&B songwriter joins a list of celebrities who have experienced similar situations, including Jill Scott and Terry Crews. Scott spoke out about her horrible experience with Harvey Weinstein, who has been under fire for sexual abuse allegations from more than 80 women in Hollywood, according to Newsweek. Additionally while Crews was unsuccessful in his sexual assault lawsuit, he has been vocal in sharing his story to inspire other victims.
