Common is taking Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones to task over his comments after Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
He told Fox News, “There is no room here if it comes between looking non-supportive of our players and of each other or creating the impression that you’re disrespecting the flag, we will be non-supportive of each other. We will not disrespect the flag. If there’s anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play. OK? Understand? If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period.”
TMZ caught up with the rapper and he didn’t mince words about the topic as well as the true meaning of the National Anthem.
“To me it’s like an owner mentality…a slave owner mentality to be honest. Like, you’re gonna do what I say…other people choose to put their hand over their heart. What makes their gesture better than somebody else who might be praying…or if somebody says I’m kneeling.”

As news broke of Jones’ decision, Donald Trump took to Twitter to applaud his decision to bench any player that kneeled.
The NAACP also weighed in on the controversy.
“Jerry Jones’ comments are more than tone-deaf, more than misinformed and misguided – they are a public commitment by an NFL owner to violate his players’ Constitutional right to free speech – one of the principles on which our nation was founded. They are proof that athletes like Colin Kaepernick who have quietly and peacefully used their platform to protest violence against communities of color do so at their own peril,” said Tony Covington, former NFL player and Senior Director of Corporate Affairs at the NAACP.
