Black superheroes are taking a forefront in pop culture—and the timing is more than perfect. With today’s social and political climate as tense as it is now, it’s exciting to see more Black people as heroes (or even fed-up antagonists) in the world of sci-fi.

We were already satisfied with the upcoming highly anticipated Black Panther, but its seems like we have even more Black people with super powers to celebrate:

Jill Scott As ‘Lady Eve’

We already know Jill Scott as ‘Jilly from Philly’—the soothing yet jazzy voice with the ability to jump into a romantic comedy/drama every now and then. But playing a bad-ass super villain? We never saw this coming.

According to reports, the Grammy-winning singer will play DC super villainess, ‘Lady Eve’ in the upcoming series, Black Lightning. Scott will play a funeral parlor owner who becomes the arch nemesis of superhero, Black Lightning (played by Cress Williams). This isn’t Jill’s first time at the sci-fi rodeo—she apparently did the voice of ‘Storm’ in the Black Panther animated series.

Hmm… is she the main villain?? ? مو متأكد اذا راح تكون الشرير الرئيسي! ?

Michael B. Jordan Plays Father of Telekinetic Child

Another star destined to make us proud in Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan is set to executive produce and star in sci-fi series, Raising Dion. According to Variety, the series originally created by Dennis Lieu “revolves around a young, recently widowed African-American mother who discovers her  son (Dion) has magical powers. Her struggle with being a single mother is compounded by her need to teach Dion how to handle his supernatural skills and her search for answers about the source of his abilities.” Jordan will play Dion’s deceased father.
