September 21st of any year is basically a national holiday in the Black community.

In September 1978, Earth, Wind & Fire members Maurice White, Al McKay and Allee Willis recorded September, releasing the record in November of the same year. The song reached number one on the US R&B chart, number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, and number three on the UK singles chart.

Willis simply described the happy nature of the song as “joyful music.”
