Cissy Houston’s upcoming memoir, Remembering Whitney, is set for release tomorrow and new excerpts from the book reflect how Whitney Houston’s mother felt about her drug use, her friendship with Robyn Crawford, and her thoughts on her former son-in-law, Bobby Brown.
On Whitney’s use of drugs:
"She started partying and she didn’t really know how to stop. I used to wonder what she was doing at night, where she was."
On trying to contact her, but Whitney not returning her calls:
"Whitney hid from me."
On her infamous skeletal appearance at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in 2001 and why she didn’t express her concern:
"What was the point? I didn’t want her to run completely away from me."
On Bobby Brown’s role in her drug use:
"I blame him for the way he treated her, but I don’t blame him for her drug problems." Still, she adds: "He was no help to her at all."
On Robyn Crawford:
"I just didn’t want her with my daughter. I know nothing about a romantic relationship. That’s what everybody said but they didn’t know either."
She admits, Crawford "cared for her" (read Robyn’s obit in Esquire here) and reveals for the first time that she was the first one to come tell her Whitney had a drug problem.
On Whitney’s death:
"I’m angry she died alone, in those conditions. I’m still mad about that."
On what she hopes people get from the book:
[To] remind people "what a good person she was. I want people to know the truth about her, how she really was."
