There will be a lot of #BlackGirlMagic on Harvard University’s campus this year with Malia Obama, Yara Shahidi, and now four-time Grammy award-winning artist Esperanza Spalding.

Announced in a press release from the Harvard University Department of Music, the jazz bassist will teach courses in songwriting, arranging, improvisation, and performance.

This will bring little to no challenge to the talented artist.

The 32-year-old has taught at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, where she became one of the youngest instructors in the college’s history.

As described by Harvard, appointments for Professors of the Practice are typically for five-year terms and are eligible for renewal.

The appointments are also “reserved for instructors who have a national or international reputation as leaders in educational innovation”.

The talented bassist performed for our president and first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama back in 2016, so she definitely has a reputation.

With five acclaimed solo albums and numerous music videos, Harvard has a gem in their hands! Congratulations Ms. Spalding!
