The legendary producer is $9.4M richer! This week a jury determined Quincy Jones was owed the astonishing amount after he alleged a breach of contract dating almost 40 years ago had shorted him out of millions in royalties.

Jones’ collaboration with Michael Jackson on Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad resulted in over $100M in album sales worldwide. According to the Los Angeles Times, the master recordings were “improperly remixed to deprive him of royalties and production fees he was entitled to.”

A jury agreed and awarded the 84-year-old almost $10 million (his lawsuit was for $30 million).

“We’re really pleased the jury saw in almost every case that Quincy was being underpaid. We feel he was being treated very poorly by the estate in a way Michael never would have done, and we are glad the jury agreed,” Jones attorney Mike McKool told The Times.

This isn’t the first lawsuit Jones has filed against MJJ Productions (the singer’s estate). In 2013, he claimed he was owed money from unpaid royalties and licensing fees for songs he produced that were used in productions after Jackson’s 2009 death, specifically in the concert documentary ‘This Is It’ as well as the two successful Cirque du Soleil shows built around the artist’s catalog, Immortal and One.

Get your money Mr. Jones! Speaking of the legacy that is the King of Pop, watch En Vogue, James Fortune and other celebrities reveal who they’d all want to open up for. Their answer shouldn’t surprise you at all.

TELL US: Fair or foul? Do you think Quincy Jones has a right to go after Michael Jackson’s royalties?
