Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Lucky Whitehead wasn’t so lucky when he was fired on his day off after being accused of a crime that he did not do. On Monday a warrant for his arrest was issued for shoplifting in a local Virginia convenient store.

“In handling the situation and evaluating with the authorities there and in talking to him, we just didn’t feel like it’s in the best interest of the Cowboys to have him with us,” said head coach Jason Garrett after firing the innocent wide receiver. He was let go from the Cowboys on the first day of training camp.

On Tuesday, the Prince William County Police Department issued a statement confirming Whitehead was mistaken for someone else and apologizing for the series of events.

Though we’ve known the NFL to keep players who have done much worse than Whitehead. For example, Greg Hardy of the Dallas Cowboys, Ray McDonald and Chris Cook of the San Francisco 49ers just to name a few.
