Donny Hathaway was a gifted child prodigy. A  gospel singer at age 10, he went on to become a talented pop songwriter and hit maker, notably through memorable duets with Roberta Flack. Sadly, superstardom and immense celebrity would pass Hathaway by, subverted, ironically, by his own obsessive perfectionism and a batte with mental illness that would end tragically. On this episode of Unsung, fellow artists reflect on the kind of respect and admiration Hathaway’s music engendered, his rise and fall in the music business, and some of his lesser known accomplishments, including feature-film scoring via a connection with Quincy Jones.
