Since 1867 Howard University has maintained a tradition of academic excellence and superior education. Howard is a private, historically black comprehensive research institution. Through its 13 academic schools, Howard offers degrees in numerous fields of study. Popular majors include Biology, Journalism, Psychology, Radio, Television and Digital Communication. Howard is the founding place of five of the historically black fraternities and sororities: Delta Sigma Theta, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta and Alpha Kappa Alpha.
