Here’s a toast to Black women making a difference!
On our radar for #BlackExcellence is none other than Nikkita Oliver, who is currently running for mayor in Seattle, WA. Even more special is that Oliver, only 31-years old and a member of the LGBT community, would be the first Black female mayor of Seattle (second black person and second woman).
A true renaissance woman and an active community leader, Oliver teaches part-time at Washington Middle School and Franklin High School, works for Creative Justice (an arts-based alternative to incarceration), is a pro bono attorney, a singer and a poet.
Mama is doing her thing!
To add to the list she actively supports the Black Lives Matter movement and plays a major role in the People’s Party of Seattle. Take a look at her mayoral campaign video:
