At the United States Naval Academy, students receive a top-notch education while training to serve their country. USNA was established in 1854. Organized into five academic divisions, the USNA curriculum focuses on engineering, weapons and other core skills students need to be midshipmen in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Life on campus is no cakewalk. From plebe (freshman) summer to graduation, students are engaged in a tightly structured program that pushes them to the limit while challenging them physically, mentally and morally. The USNA is committed to developing future midshipmen and instilling in them the ultimate standard of loyalty, duty and honor. The field house, home to athletic events and activities at the USNA, is named for its first African-American graduate, Wesley Brown. It is the first building on campus to be named for an African American.
