Our first Unsung feature film, Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story was a success! We told you we wouldn’t let you down.

Now we need your help: Who should be the next Unsung biopic?

As we all know, casting is a very crucial part of the biopic game and we don’t want to drop the ball when we do this again. Here are a few biopic ideas that we’re throwing around:

1. NICKI MINAJ AS CHAKA KHAN

WHY? After watching Love Under New Management, are we the only ones that want to take a closer look at the life of Chaka Khan? Outside of their striking resemblance we think it would be epic if a certain rapper from Jamaica Queens, NY played the “Through the Fire” living legend. Long before Nicki Minaj changed the game as a stand-alone female rapper, she pursued acting and landed a role in the Off-Broadway play, In Case You Forget, after graduating from LaGuardia High School, a popular performing arts school in New York City.

2. KELLY ROWLAND AS DONNA SUMMER

WHY? Okay, this casting is too perfect not to mention! R&B singer-turned-manager plays the disco queen from the 70’s? Yes, please! We’ve seen fellow Destiny’s Child band mate Beyoncé in several period piece movies (Austin Powers Goldmember, Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records) and we’d love  to see Kelly get a chance to wow us in this biopic. This only makes sense as Kelly has already paid tribute to Donna in a past performance.

3. QUINCY COMBS AS AL B. SURE!

WHY? Hey, if Ice Cube can choose his son to play him in Straight Outta Compton, then Al B. Sure! can choose his son too! It is rumored that the two may have an estranged relationship but what better way to make amends than to team up and retell the story of the “Nite and Day” smooth R&B star from the late 80’s.

4. ESSENCE ATKINS AS DIANA ROSS

IMG_4951

WHY? Is it just us or does Essence look like a long lost daughter of Ms. Diana Ross? We first saw Essence on The Cosby Show but grew to love her as the witty older sister on the Smart Guy. We’d love to see Essence play the biggest role of her career as the Detroit born-and-raised centerpiece of The Supremes.

5. JUSSIE SMOLLETT AS PRINCE

WHY? We know this is a touchy one… but who would be a better choice for Prince other than this Empire breakout star? Although Jussie is a bit taller than Prince (Prince was 5’2, Jussie is 6’0), we could create so much magic with the help of more voluminous curls, a skinny mustache, and some eyeliner…hey, it’s just a thought. If not, we always have Rihanna.
