The jury in the Jennifer Hudson family murder trial reached a guilty verdict on Friday, charging William Balfour, Hudson’s former brother-in-law, with the triple homicide of Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in 2008. The prosecution presented their case over two weeks with more than 80 witnesses, including Hudson who testified that the family didn’t want her sister, Julia, to marry Balfour. Hudson also testified that she kept her distance from the defendant.

Balfour was accused of killing the family in a jealous rage when he felt his estranged wife was seeing another man. He was found guilty on the following counts: three counts of first-degree murder, and one count each of home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated kidnapping, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

After the verdict, the Hudson sisters released a statement thanking supporters and specifically offered a prayer to the Balfour family.
