Savannah State University is the oldest historically black university in Georgia. Founded in 1890, SSU has been one of the driving forces of educating African Americans for more than 120 years. With four academic colleges, SSU offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in several fields of study. Popular majors include Journalism, Business Administration and Criminal Justice. Savannah State gives its students numerous opportunities to be active both on campus and in the community. SSU has over 70 organizations that engage students academically, politically and philosophically. Savannah State University was founded with the purpose of “adding value” to all former slaves. From each student that steps foot on campus for the first time to every graduate that receives his or her degree, SSU continues to honor that legacy.
