According to TMZ Whitney Houston’s family has been informed that the singer died from a combination of alcohol and prescription drugs and not drowning as initially suspected. The site claims the L.A. County Coroner’s office shared this with the family, pointing to Xanax and booze as the source of her death. It appears there was not enough water in her lungs to conclude that she drowned. She may have even died before her head became submerged. Also, Whitney Houston’s aunt, Mary Jones, actually may have been the one who discovered her body.

In related news, both the Houston Family and Bobby Brown have released statements expressing their grief over the lost of the celebrated legend. Both Brown and Whitney’s mother, singer Cissy Houston, made clear just how difficult this sudden loss is.

Cissy’s statement: “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends.”

Brown’s statement: “I am deeply saddened at the passing of my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. At this time, we ask for privacy, especially for my daughter, Bobbi Kristina. I appreciate all of the condolences that have been directed towards my family and I at this most difficult time

Longtime friend, past collaborator, and godmother of Whitney’s only child, CeCe Winans also issued a statement: “I have no words to express how I feel. Whitney was not just a friend but a sister and I am going to miss her voice, her humor but mostly her friendship. She was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers of all time but she was also a great person.  Please keep her family in prayer and the best way to honor her is to be reminded that tomorrow is not promised to any of us so love God and love each other.”

Speaking of Bobbi Kristina, she was treated yesterday for anxiety. She was transported early morning to Cedars-Sinai from the Beverly Hills Hilton before being released later that afternoon. Bobbi Kristina’s dad left his tour with New Edition to be at her side with other members of her family.
