Topshop Topman LA Opening Party – Red Carpet

Chris Brown spoke with the U.K.’s The Mirror about Seth MacFarlene’s joke about he and Rihanna at the Oscars, plus the status of his relationship with his fellow pop star and why he’s learned to be a better man. Or something.

First, on his stepfather who abused his mother:

“He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day…’ I hate him to this day.”

On his previously volatile relationship with Rihanna and getting her forgiveness:

“Sometimes you row, you fight, with the one you love and things get said, stuff spirals. That night was the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake.”

“But she loves me – what can I say? I’m forgiven… but, yes, I worked hard for it.”

On what he’s learned:

“I’ve learned a lot since that night and I’ve grown up. I was very young and I took a lot of stuff, fame, for granted. I didn’t understand it. The support from those who do know me and the fans, who are incredible, got me through.”

On Seth MacFarlene’s joke at the Oscars lingering judgment the public has of him:

“People attack me and criticize me, it happens all the time. But they don’t know me, and they don’t know us. It doesn’t bother me any more.”
